CSS, units and inheritance
Styles are inline declarations such as style="font-size:11pt;color:#12665B". Later duplicate declarations override earlier ones. Property names are normalized; values must match the finite supported grammar. There is no stylesheet/class/selector cascade, !important, CSS variable evaluation, flexbox or grid.
Physical units
Section titled “Physical units”- Model geometry and
*-mmattributes use numeric millimeters without a unit suffix. - Font sizes accept explicit
pt,mmorpx. Nonzero unitless CSS font sizes are rejected. - CSS margins/padding accept
mm,pt,pxand unitless zero. - Image dimensions additionally accept percentages and unitless pixels; percentages use the containing region’s available dimensions.
- 1 inch = 25.4 mm = 72 pt = 96 CSS px. A line-height value is a multiplier, not a physical length.
- Physical coordinates and dimensions must be finite; content must fit its available geometry.
Inheritance
Section titled “Inheritance”Builtin/tag defaults sit below document-local theme/named styles and explicit ancestor/local values. Null model fields inherit. Explicit false/normal/none/zero/AUTO values remain meaningful overrides. Paragraph margins and pagination controls do not automatically propagate from a container to every child. Use named styles for reuse, with local overrides where needed.
Typography belongs to text; cell appearance belongs to tables/cells; decorated boxes expose their own background/padding/borders. A property accepted on one kind of element is not necessarily accepted everywhere.
